baba recently gifted me a sony cybershot, the same model as the first camera I ever shot on @ the age of six.

at that age, my mom gave me my first photo assignment, like the proper dark room professor she is: shoot blue.

Blue is beautiful like bonnets (bluebonnets). Lomagirl: I gave Pepsigirl an assignment to shoot "Blue". Then I helped her choose which photos to post. What did you learn on this assignment? Pepsigirl: I didn't really learn anything. L:What about how to take pictures close up? P: Oh, yes. There's two ways to get a closeup. You can press the flower (macro mode) or you can press the T (zoom in). L: Did you like the assignment? P: Yes. I loved it.

I carry around this point and shoot everywhere now. its a great balance of convenience and nostalgia but is also simple and photos are easily retrievable; unlike my olympus film point and shoot, I don’t have to pay for getting negatives developed or wait hours to scan rolls sleeve by sleeve.

its cathartic to use this camera again. hearing the power on sound, the cheesy 00s digital shutter noise and its recording beep is a head plunge into 2009. fourteen years later i’m looking through the viewfinder with a stronger, more developed, more experienced eye.
