when I was a freshman in college so many far distant months ago, I began to pick up paid photo shoots for university organizations and offices that requested student photographers. I needed the pay.
half of that pay is taken from the organization I was hired through and effectively pays much lower than my personal rate. the two to sometimes five hour shoots added a few more coins to the small pile of change my two jobs at the student paper rewarded me.
but beggars can’t be choosers and so I found myself at the college of natural science’s most recent donor gratitude event. I was given the typical shot list of candids and portraits of speakers at the podium.
my personal shotlist was to take photos just for me that I caught and couldn’t resist. little gems to collect while I sort through the hundreds of outtakes. little moments that give me the vain notion that perhaps no one has caught the same frame before.
